What better way to celebrate Father’s Day than to take a day trip up to the Lincoln National Forest. With scorching triple digits temperatures in El Paso, nothing better than enjoying cooler temperatures up in the mountains. The trip started at Red Sands in East El Paso, where we met up and waited for the participants to arrive. Joining us on our trip were the guys and gals from Sucios 4x4 and Wired off-road teams. We kicked off the trip with about 25 vehicles of various makes and models. Once off the highway we headed North on Waco Tanks Road.
We crossed in New Mexico and along the way we passed by private ranches, grazing cattle, and a military range. The lack of rain in the region made the trip a real dusty one but it didn’t take away from the beauty of the open range. The Timberon Overland Express trail snaked its way up the foothills and into the Village of Timberon, New Mexico. The small village has a population of about 350 residents and consists mostly of cabins, ranches, and a small airstrip. Once at the village the team stopped for a meal at the High-Country Lounge and Grill. The folks there went above and beyond to cater to our group which had grown to about 35 vehicles! In the end, we ended up mustering close to 100 men, women, and children!
After some hardy meals, ice-cold beers, and free raffles most of the group made their way back to El Paso by driving through the Sacramento Mountains up to Cloudcroft and back down Alamogordo. A few members stayed and camped overnight at the Peak Campground where they cooked, fished, and spend their evening under the stars! If you missed this amazing day trip don’t worry, we got more planned in the coming months! To all the participants we appreciate you for coming out and supporting our event! See you all next time!
